Scots “Excellence for Everyone” Delivers Results

The highly personalised “Excellence for Everyone” approach to education introduced in 2015 at The Scots School Albury continues to show impressive outcomes with the 2018 HSC results out today.

With standouts in a number of areas, no matter how or where our students achieve we love to celebrate their successes with them.

This year, 21 students (11 in 2017) are included in the Board of Studies Distinguished Achievers List for students who achieve an HSC mark of at least 90/100 (Band 6) for a 2 unit course or 45/50 (E4) for a 1 unit course in one or more subjects.

“As a small, non-selective school, we are able to adopt an individual approach to providing subject options our students want to explore, to give them the best education possible. This just wouldn’t be practical if we had much larger student numbers,” said Ms Peggy Mahy, Principal of Scots.

Included in this list is Bree Poole, who thrilled everybody, including herself, with making the Achievers List for all of her subjects – English Ext 1, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Mathematics Ext 1, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

“With the extensive extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities and safe atmosphere, Scots lets each individual build and shape themselves in any way they like,” said Bree.

“The intimate, personal pathway we develop for each and every student ensures they have the opportunity to fulfill their full potential whether that be in the classroom, on the playing field, on the stage, in our world-renowned Pipe Band or the many other arenas Scots offers,” Ms Mahy said.

None of this would be possible, however, without the extraordinary dedication of the teachers and learning support staff, with the hard work of students backed up by their parents.

This collaborative approach to such a curated education is one of the reasons why Scots was the only Finalist from the Border region at the 2018 Australian Education Awards.

“We are immensely proud of The Class of 2018 and are excited to hear of their many adventures and achievements

– they are ready for the world!” said Ms Mahy.
