2010 Yrs 5/6 Open Orientation Day

Printer-friendly version
The Commencement of the Middle Years
Date:
Thursday, October 29th, 2009

The Year 5 and Year 6 2010 Open Orientation Day will be held on Friday, 13th November from 9.00am-3.10pm. The day is open to all enrolled students and prospective students considering enrolment.

This event has proven to be a most remarkable success in both providing interested students with a taste of Scots and offering newly enrolled students a positive beginning to their transitional phase into Scots.

Commencing secondary school can be a time of considerable anxiety for young adolescents. Early entry into Scots at either Year 5 or 6 provides a smooth, seamless transition from primary to secondary school.

There is considerable evidence to support early entry into a vibrant and supportive middle years program as a means to assisting young boys and girls to become engaged with, receptive to, and understanding of, the School culture and expectations.

Current families are encouraged to promote the day and invite interested families to contact the School and register their child for the day.

The concept of the day is to provide an opportunity for students in next year's classes to meet and socialise with their classmates, meet their teachers, and learn about the Scots culture.

The establishment of relationships and a sense of belonging are outcomes we hope all students will achieve.

Classes at both levels are unstreamed, although a balance of general academic ability, gender, social characteristics and a mix of new/existing students is of benefit.

The format for the day is as follows:
