It is again clear that one of the secrets of success in academic study is to be involved in a range of other activities, sports and cultural pursuits.

The HSC 2004 results have shown excellence and depth.  Principal, Mr Warren Howlett, said that it was very rewarding to see that involvement and diligence had brought dividends to so many students.

"This year some of the stand-out subjects, above State Average and with significant numbers of Band 6 and Band 5 results, have been Ancient History, Biology, Chemistry, Information Processes and Technology and Japanese" he said.

“Nearly all subjects had averages above the State Average, which is a great compliment to both teachers and students and 40% of all results are in the top two bands, the top 20% of marks" he said.

In NSW the University Admissions Index (UAI) scores will be sent directly to students and not to schools.

A few of our top students are listed below.

Congratulations to Anthony Hall, Dux of the Class of 2004.  Anthony balanced his role as School Prefect, his involvement in tennis and hockey, and his outstanding contribution in the performing arts with his excellence in academic pursuits.  He has received major awards in Drama, Tennis, Music and Hockey.  He is planning to go into Arts Law at ANU.  Anthony’s Ancient History result of 97% is exceptional.

Close rival in academics Nicholas Ternes, another outstanding achiever, was School Captain and a top sportsman, especially in hockey and tennis.  Nicholas’ results should see him achieve his goal of Physiotherapy.

Phoebe Slonim, an accomplished actress, received the special Drama Award, and was a member of the Pipe Band and netball player.  Her immediate future plans include a Science degree at Melbourne.

Amelia Ballard, a House Captain, is a top swimmer and very active in the performing arts, in particular strings and choirs.  She is looking to study Commerce and Languages.

Phillip Bailey, Prefect, Pipe Major in the Pipe band, in the performing arts and drama, plays cricket and tennis and has achieved at a high level.

Edwina Lumsden, Captain of Girls Boarding, took a full page in the graduation booklet to list all her achievements and involvement in the performing arts, athletics, many sports, instrumental and vocal music, agriculture and community service.  Edwina is off to Canada in 2005.

Most students in Year 12 are actively involved in Sport, Music, Drama and Community Service.

The term ‘value-added’ has a meaning in education. Our students all start at different places. Our goal is to keep moving them to higher and higher places and sometimes to heights that they had not imagined.
