Paving a pathway to the future

Mahy, Peggy

Ms Peggy Mahy
The Principal

Peggy shared plans for new and exciting initiatives that will define and strengthen the future of Scots as a place that shapes ‘World Ready’ students. These include:

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. From 2018 we will be ensuring that all students in Years 9 and 10 are engaged in STEAM projects, along with their traditional subject selections.

Our goal is to become a national leader in the education of Agriculture, encompassing a rewarding experiential program whilst developing a new centre of excellence for school-based scientific engagement with agriculture, research and innovative business application. We will redefine how agriculture can be taught, encompassing critical thinking, entrepreneurship and high-tech science.

Our Thinking Lab program seeks to correct deficiencies in cognitive functions or improve thinking skills by providing students with the concepts, tools, skills, strategies, operations, and techniques necessary to function as independent learners. The program will help students learn how to learn thereby improving decision making, planning and flexible thinking. This program will roll out to Year 7 and 8 this semester and our goal will be to roll this program out more fully to other Year levels from 2018.

As a School, we are keen to invest in the infrastructure of boarding and in the development of its programs. We are also determined to grow its population through a commitment to a high-quality experience, advantageous adjustments to the cost of boarding and an uplifting of the quality of the accommodation overall. We are also keen to diversify and broaden the profile of students at Scots, and in boarding specifically. A World Ready School must prepare students for the world by embracing the world.
