The Scots Experience
Boarders at The Scots School Albury can enjoy all the rewards of a country lifestyle, while taking full advantage of the range of opportunities available in academic, cultural and sporting areas.
Proximity to sports practice, music lessons, rehearsals, Pipe Band, the Information Technology Centre and Library, means that our boarding students are able to take full advantage of all that is on offer in our school curriculum.
These opportunities, provided in a safe and secure environment, help to build the well-rounded education for which we are so highly regarded.
At Scots it's so easy to be involved!

Co-educational Boarding
For rural or remote families, selecting the right boarding school for their son or daughter is a crucial decision.
At Scots, although our boarding houses provide separate gender accommodation, Sellars House (boys) and Wilson House (girls), both boys and girls share dining facilities, a common recreation area and many supervised activities. This interaction provides brothers and sisters with ample opportunity to see each other on a regular basis, so that all family members can share in a common educational experience.
Safety and Care
Through a culture of caring and responsible supervision, boarders at Scots have the opportunity to become part of an extended family, forming friendships for life.
The Pastoral Support programs available at the school help our boarders successfully deal with the many challenges involved in making the transition to boarding life, whilst our nursing staff are on hand to care for their health requirements.
Boarding houses are supervised by staff at all times when the students are in residence and designated tutors arrange supervised homework (“prep”) time for the students in the boarding houses, as well as organised study groups.
Our boarders are also provided with additional monitored access to the school computer network to assist them with their research and communication requirements.
These activities are further enhanced by the range of recreational pursuits available both during weekdays and on the weekends, along with opportunities to visit or stay with the families of other boarders or day students (providing parental permission is granted).
Boarding Facilities
Scots has two boarding houses for students - Wilson (girls) and Sellars (boys).
Each boarding house provides students with a recreation/lounge area incorporating kitchenette and television viewing. The kitchenettes have fridges, hot water units, snack making facilities and microwaves.
Students in the lower grades have shared bathrooms and dormitories which are allocated to year groups. Within the dormitories students each have their own partitioned bedroom area with a bed, wardrobe and desk. The dormitories are climate controlled by a reverse cycle heating and cooling system. In addition, all boarding students have access to a daily in-house laundry service on site.
Year 12 students are provided with their own bedrooms and separate recreation areas (including a billiards room) whilst all boarders enjoy access to the media room with its large screen and rear projection television - making Saturday movie nights something special.
A central courtyard area located between the boarding houses is utilised by many of our boarders during their evening breaks or on weekends.
More to do
Boarders at The Scots School Albury enjoy all the benefits of living on the school premises, while being close to the centre of Albury. Opprtunities to be involved in a myriad of activities abound around the school in addition to at least one sporting activity which they are expected to participate in per term.
Their mornings may start with some exercise - a walk, swim or cycle ride at 6.30am, whilst others take advantage of some extra time to sleep in. Some students grab an early breakfast and head to music practice or rehearsals.
Breakfast is served at 8.10am before boarders head off to join the day students at school. The boarders return to the Dining Hall to collect recess and have their lunch.
When school ends at 3.30pm, the Boarders return to their boarding house to change. They may be heading to a sports practice, choir, the computer rooms or the library. Some may head down town for provisions, whilst others take time out at the boarding houses to catch up with friends.
Some of our boarders join local clubs to play squash, soccer, golf or karate. Others may satisfy their individual interests by pursuing specific sporting and cultural activities.
In the past, dance classes provided to junior boys and girls have helped to broaden their interests, whilst other students have elected to participate in classical ballet, modern dance, extra musical groups, yoga and pilates.
The day end sees dinner served at 6.00pm, followed by homework sessions between 7.00pm-9.00pm. Then it’s time to get ready for bed and recharge the batteries for another day!
At Scots our policy at all times is to assist all boarders to make the most of the opportunities available to them. We encourage them to take responsibility in following through on their commitment and enthusiasm, so that they can get the most out of their boarding experience.
