End of Year Primary Events Summary
( print and put it on the fridge)
Dear Parents,
As we have many parents experiencing the final fortnight for the first or second time, I feel it is appropriate and helpful to issue a reminder of the details for Weeks 7 & 8. Parents and friends are invited to each of these special events.
Primary Students Think Globally, Act Locally
Our world will be the centre of the Primary School's attention over the last few weeks of this term. The focus upon a healthy and thriving environment, locally and globally, is our aim.
A range of different activities are planned that will complement the curriculum and enhance the sense of learning and community within the Primary School.
Farewell Mrs Sue Salisbury
As Mrs Norton has indicated, 2009 will be Mrs. Sue Salisbury's final year at The Scots School Albury. Sue has completed an outstanding career and is sure to look forward to, and enjoy, her retirement.
Sue commenced teaching in our Pre School in 1978, where she remained until 1984. She returned in 1988 to teach Year 3.
Public Speaking Gala Finals Evening Report
What an absolute privilege it was to be a member of a most appreciative audience at the annual Years 3-6 Public Speaking Finals Evening held at the School on Monday 1st November.
A wide variety of topics proved to be both highly entertaining and educational, with topics as diverse as Cudgewa and Switzerland.
Multiple Intelligences Equals Multiple Thoughts
"Unless you have people who are responsible workers and responsible citizens you will not have a society in which any of us would want to live."
Howard Gardner
Several years ago the Scots Primary School introduced the concept of Multiple Intelligences to our students. Within the HSIE program a Multiple Intelligences (MI) grid was created for each theme. Students were then able to choose from a range of different activities that would cater for specific learning styles.
Super Seussical Sensation!
I am simply amazed at the incredibly high standard those children reached.
It is obvious how much they enjoy performing on stage.
What incredibly talented children!
These are some of the quotes from audience members who had just been thoroughly entertained by around eighty Year 5 & 6 students performing the brilliantly clever Seussical Jr.

First Impressions
"You never get a second chance to make a first impression" Anon
We are all aware of the saying, "never judge a book by its cover" and to some degree it offers a contradiction to the quote that headlines this article. However, the first meeting, either verbal or visual, a person makes upon someone else has the potential to leave a permanent impression.
Good Sports
Being a member of a team is one of the finest and most rewarding privileges a person can experience. The feeling of "team" does not just involve sport. It is by being a member of a musical group or part of a scout troupe, as a student in a homeroom or a year level, and even an employee in an organisation. "Teamship" is simply about playing a role as an individual for the benefit of the collective group.
Primary Theatre
The Infant classes have commenced rehearsals for their Term 3 Production of "Boo!'. The students will grace our Chapel Hall on Thursday August 20. This play is another inspired script written by Joel Tasker with songs and direction by Barbara Tasker. The boys and girls have commenced rehearsals with great enthusiasm and excitement.
Primary Notices
The NAPLAN assessment regime was completed this week for Years 3 & 5 in the Primary School. Our students demonstrated competence and composure in preparing and completing the requirements. I thank Mr Jason Carr, Miss Tania Harding and Mrs Michelle Mullins for administering the tests and supporting their students.
Scots Does Not Rhyme With
I sometimes become frustrated at the perception some members of the region have about Scots. Perception is generated from a lack of authentic knowledge and understanding. As an example, the nickname 'Snots' besides signifying prejudice and discrimination, also reflects ignorance.
