Enrolment FAQ

What age can my child start school?
Entry is open to all students whose fifth birthday is before 31st March in the year that they start Kinder.

When should I send in an application? Is there a closing date?
Whilst we do not have a closing date, we do ask for applications to be received by the end of Term 1 of the year preceding entry.

Are there places available mid-way through the year?
There is sometimes movement in the roll during the course of the year which may result in places becoming available. Our Enrolments Office can let you know whether there is a place available mid-year.

I am considering sending my child to Scots, how do I visit the school?
We welcome visitors to the school anytime, every day is open day at Scots. Please click here to find out how to make a time to tour the school.

What are the fees to send my child to Scots?
Please see our fees page. A discount is offered for advance payment of fees.

What are the key steps to enrol my child at Scots?
1) Return your completed Enrolment Form and other requested documents (as per the checklist on the Enrolment Form) to the Enrolments Office and pay your Application Fee.
2) You will be asked to attend an interview with the Principal or Head of Junior School.
3) A formal offer of a place may be made, you will be asked to pay an Entrance Fee to finalise enrolment.
4) In the months before your child’s commencement at you child will be invited to attend both Student for a Day and an Orientation Day.

Do I need to provide family references with my application for enrolment?
No.

Can I postpone my child’s enrolment?
Yes, you can postpone a student’s date of entry at any stage following submission of an Enrolment Application form for up to 36 months from the initial intended date of entry without penalty. Thereafter a new enrolment form must be submitted and all applicable enrolment fees paid.

Does my child require their own computer or tablet?
Scots supplies each Kinder to Year 4 student with an iPad. These are stored on-site in each classroom.
Students in Years  5 and 6 are required to bring their own device (preferably an ipad)
In the Senior School, it is recommended that students have a laptop.

Do you have an entry examination?
Scots is an open- entry and non-selective school. Academic tests are not used as part of the enrolment process (except in the case of scholarship applications).

Are scholarships available?
Yes, there are a limited number of scholarships available each year.

What happens at the interview?
The admissions interview is conducted by the Principal or Head of Junior School, and is designed as an informal conversation with your child to determine whether Scots is the right fit for your family.

Do you cater for students of all ability levels?
We provide education opportunities aligned to the interests and abilities of individual students. There is a well-established system of support for all learners whether they require extension or learning support.

My child has additional learning needs; how will you assess their applications?
In addition to an internal review of the information supplied with your enrolment form, you and/or your child may be asked to participate in conversations/interviews with relevant staff and/or supply further documentation. The educational requirements of your child, and all students in your child’s cohort, are considered in order to ascertain they can be reasonably accommodated.

Does Scots offer discounts?
Scots offers discounts for siblings both with regard to tuition fees and boarding fees, when there are 2 or more siblings from the same family simultaneously attending Scots.  In addition, we offer a discount for advance payment in full of annual school fees  by 1st March.

How many students in each class?
We offer smaller class sizes, usually 23 or fewer with a maximum of 25 in Years 7-8.

Boarding

What age do you take Boarders from?
The School accepts Boarders from Year 7 (age 13) for both the girls’ and boys’ boarding.

Are weekly boarding options available?
Yes, we offer both full term and weekly boarding for boys and girls in our boarding houses.

Are there different fees for weekly and full-time boarding?
Yes

My child is coming from overseas. What are the equivalent levels/grades Scots?
This is usually assessed on age and school reports.

We would be able to confirm the most suitable level for your child during an interview and when we have viewed their current school reports.

What documentation do you require for international students?
