Why Scots?

A place for everyoneWhy Scots Website resized
Your child will quickly feel at home at Scots. It is this sense of belonging and the inspiration of our staff and other students, that instils a love for learning. Your child will develop a thirst for knowledge, the confidence to grapple challenges and the mindset to inquire and interrogate the world around them. Our small size means that all students are known, they are not just another face in the crowd. Our academic and support staff take an interest in and value each student’s unique personality.

Our great teachers
Our academic and support staff work tirelessly to produce outstanding outcomes for our students. They are innovative and purposeful. They create opportunities that will allow your child to work with their strengths, acknowledge their weaknesses, and explore their passions in real-world contexts. They use data driven academic tracking and reporting to support and challenge your child and keep you abreast as to how they are performing. They are invested in their own personal and professional development, evidenced by the programs and behaviours they model in their classroom. They are our greatest asset.

Our students love to learn
We believe that a great education involves building the resilience, capacity, happiness and potential of the individual, within a dynamic, innovative and engaging learning environment. Our students love to learn because we are purposeful in what we teach. We integrate each child’s interests and passions into their learning by providing a balanced education through extensive academic and co-curricular opportunities. Our learning culture supports and encourages every child to strive to reach their personal best – acknowledging that no two learners are the same. We encourage students to take ownership of their learning so that they become self-managed and independent.

Our students flourish
We provide a compassionate, inclusive, safe and caring environment where all students are seen as individuals. We support student wellbeing through carefully constructed and age appropriate wellbeing programmes that support self-esteem, aid personal development and enhance learning across all intersections of school life.

Opportunities abound
Our diverse curriculum and co-curricular offering enables our staff to help turn interests into passions. Students at Scots can express themselves in dance, join a musical ensemble – from rock bands to the Pipe Band – transform themselves into new characters in our highly anticipated school musicals, harness their ingenuity in robotics or take part in one of our extensive sports offerings. Students have opportunities to connect with the broader world through service learning and trips abroad and are challenged to overcome adversity in our world-class Outdoor Education programmes. The Scots co-curricular program offers a collaborative, diverse, joyful, exciting, nurturing, inspiring and meaningful set of opportunities.

Our engaged community
At Scots we know that it takes a village to raise a child. Our School is supported by a strong and engaged community of dedicated staff, parents and community groups. Our community is further strengthened by our co-educational Boarding House and our Alumni. You never walk alone at Scots. 150 years of students have shaped the School in their own way, each leaving a legacy and something for students to strive towards. As an Alumni, your child will join a well-connected network of Scots Alumni in the region, Australia and abroad.
