After an action packed 10 weeks, we have made it to the end of another Term.
Term 3 has been incredibly busy with our students involved in so many different activities. I am constantly amazed by the number and range of activities on offer for our students. Scots students are incredibly fortunate to have the many experiences on offer.
Junior School update
The Junior School building is powering ahead at an amazing rate. In Stage 1B (the old Library), the internal walls are being constructed, the roof is complete and the windows are being installed. In Stage 1A, the roof is being installed and the lantern is really beginning to take shape. Most excitingly, the plan for the new playground has been finalised and there is no doubt that it will be the best playground in the area. I can’t wait to see the excitement on the children’s faces when they first see the playground.
Lots of final decisions have had to be made over the last month regarding furniture, landscaping and plant selection. It will be very rewarding to see everything come together.
French Language Immersion
It was with much excitement that 10 Senior School students left for France on Sunday 21 September. The students were accompanied by Mr Agar, Mr Hartshorn and Mrs Byles. I have no doubt that this will be a trip of a lifetime for our students.
Bring It On
There was great enthusiasm from the students when Bring It On was announced as the 2026 Senior School Musical. We have had a record number of students audition with almost 70 students signing up, and that is in addition to all Year 9 students being involved. Rehearsals will begin early next term, but we are already seeing students cartwheel and flip their way around campus. Bring It On is going to be a musical that no-one should miss. Please keep an eye out for ticket sales in Term 1 next year.
Father's Day Breakfast
We had a massive crowd of more than 500 dads, grandfathers and students turn up for our annual Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 5 September. It was great to see this event so well attended. Thank you to all our Junior School parents, led by Victoria Tonkin, who organised the Father’s Day stall. The Junior School students loved buying their dad a gift.
Say No to Domestic Violence and Yes to Respectful Relationships
On Wednesday 17 September, we hosted a Rotary-organised event to promote their very important initiative "Say no to domestic violence and yes to respectful relationships".
Our Year 11 students attended alongside senior students from eight other local schools. The students were very fortunate to hear from domestic violence advocate Phil Cleary, and from the Commander NSW Police Superintendent Danielle Emerton. Very powerful messages were delivered to the students. The seminar followed the vital work in this area which commenced earlier in the Term when Daniel Principe spoke with the Year 9-11 boys about positive masculinity and Angela from Bloom Within presented to the Year 9-11 girls about self-positivity and relationships. In an increasingly challenging world, it is incredibly important that we equip our students with the skills to have meaningful and positive relationships.
Scots Legacy Series breakfast
On Friday 22 September, we held our inaugural Scots Legacy Series breakfast with alumni and AFL footballer, Will Setterfield, as our guest speaker. Will spoke to our community about persistence, resilience, hard work, self-belief and motivation. His inspiring story was very well received by our students who are aspiring to be future AFL stars. The breakfast was a huge success and we are planning for this to become an annual fixture on our Calendar where we showcase the achievements of our highly successful male alumni, highlighting the impact that their time and experiences at Scots had on shaping their success.
Henty Field Days
I had the pleasure of attending the Henty Field Days this week, accompanying our Year 9 Agriculture students. It was wonderful to speak and meet up with many of our existing families, alumni and future families. Thanks to everyone who called in to the Scots marquee for a chat.
2025 School Magazine
Our 2025 School Magazine will be made available digitally, as we endeavour to practise responsible sustainability. However, for those families who desperately desire a hard copy, there will be the option to purchase one for a cost. I would encourage all families to make responsible decisions about ordering a physical version, as the publication of our School Magazine requires thousands upon thousands of pages of printing, which is not great for our environment. Further details regarding the 2025 School Magazine will be shared later in Term 4.
Uniform
Full Summer uniform is to be worn when students return for Term 4, on Tuesday 14 October.
All students are required to wear their school hats for the final term, so please ensure that students have a hat and that it is in good condition. School hats need to be worn to and from school, at lunch and recess and whenever students are outside throughout the school day.
The Noone uniform shop is open during the holidays - check our website HERE for Term 3 School Holiday trading hours.
Fees in lieu of notice
Just a reminder that if parents are withdrawing their children from Scots for 2026, then final notification needs to be submitted by today, Friday 26 September. If written notice is not received by today, then parents will be charged for Term 1 2026 fees in lieu of notice.
Year 12 Farewell
This week we celebrated with our Year 12 students and families as they had their last week at school before returning for their HSC exams. The Class of 2025 has been an incredible cohort and a truly lovely group of young people. It has been my absolute pleasure to spend the past two years with them. I will cherish the time we have spent together and remember them very fondly. They have been a true credit to themselves and their families. In all honesty, they have been one of the very best year groups I’ve ever worked alongside. I wish them all the very best in their upcoming HSC Exams and have no doubt they will make us all incredibly proud.
Apps parents should know about
I discovered the following infographic recently and thought that it might be a valuable resource for parents:
In a rapidly changing and evolving digital world, it can be very difficult for parents to keep up. I hope this resource may provide some guidance as you navigate this tricky space with your children.
Holiday break
After a very busy term and a great deal of illness, I hope you all get the chance to slow down a little, take time to re-energise and spend quality time together. In a world where many people feel that every minute of their children’s lives needs to be planned, programmed and filled with exciting activities, remember that our children also need to have downtime, that having nothing planned is a rare luxury and kids being bored is not a bad thing!
I hope you all have a great break and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday 14 October, for a very short 8-week Term 4!
Head of Senior School • Janine Haymes
As Term 3 draws to a close, we pause to reflect on a season of growth, grit and gratitude - especially for our Year 12 students who have now completed their final classes at Scots.
This term was monumental. From the intensity of trial exams to the clarity gained around what lies ahead for the HSC, our Year 12s have shown remarkable resilience and determination. Teachers and mentors have worked closely with students to identify areas for refinement and the path to the final exams is now clearly marked, with support and encouragement every step of the way.
The final week of Term 3 was filled with joy, laughter and heartfelt moments. On Monday, our Year 12s arrived dressed as someone they aspired to be: builders, nurses, firemen and even a fabulous Dolly Parton graced our grounds. It was a beautiful expression of hope and imagination, reminding us all of the dreams that fuel our learning journey.
One of the most touching moments came during the final chapel service. In a tradition unique to Scots, our Kindergarten students gently escorted the Year 12s out of chapel for the last time. It was a symbolic passing of the torch, a moment of reverence and celebration. We extend our deepest thanks to Rev Beth Bear for leading this milestone with grace and warmth.
Rev Beth closed the Chapel with words that will echo in the hearts of our Year 12s: “Year 12: remember, the one who delights in your existence, the force of Love who some call God, is with you always, to the end of the age. Go from this place with courage to do good, and I truly believe you will.”
Yesterday's final assembly was a fitting tribute to the accomplishments of our students. Academic excellence, community service and personal growth were all recognised. The Flourish Awards in particular captured the essence of our school culture; celebrating not just achievement but character, kindness, leadership and contribution.
To our graduating Class of 2025: we are proud of you. Go boldly, go kindly and go knowing you are deeply loved.
As we wrap up this term, we wish the entire Scots community a restful and safe break. May you enjoy the beauty of spring, take time to recharge and return refreshed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term in full summer uniform - hats included!
Head of Junior School • Chris Todd
As we come to the end of Term 3, it is a wonderful time to reflect on the learning, growth and achievements of our Junior School students.
We began the term with a focus on the value of determination. This was launched at our first assembly of the term and the value was shared through the picture story The Power of Yet. The story highlighted the importance of persistence and the belief that every challenge is an opportunity to improve. This theme ran through our assemblies all term and culminated in our Academic Week Assembly in Week 9.
During Academic Week, students competed in a level based Maths Facts competition and Spelling Bee. At the assembly, level prizes were awarded to our Maths and Spelling Champions. The top five students from each year level then took to the stage in the Spelling Bee, competing in front of the whole school for the title of School Champion. It was great to see the way students displayed determination and courage during this competition.
The focus on areas to improve in learning began at the start of the term during our student-led parent-teacher meetings. Students took ownership of their learning by identifying an area they wanted to focus on and improve. It has been encouraging to see students taking responsibility for their progress and striving to get better every day.
There have been many areas where students have demonstrated their growth this term. Our Music Assembly showcased the talents of our students, with performances from the Junior Choir, the Year 3/4 Strings Showcase and the Year 5/6 Orchestra. Each performance was a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our students and staff in the Junior School music program. We also took time to celebrate our Junior Sports Stars, recognising those who have trained hard and represented our school with pride throughout the year. Their determination and sportsmanship have set a good example for all and it was great to recognise their achievements as a school community.
This week also marked the conclusion of the year for our Junior School Chess Team. After a very successful run, the team competed in the Inter-Region Chess Final. While they were defeated by Wollongong, we could not be prouder of their persistence, teamwork and commitment. Giving up lunch times to practise, they demonstrated so much growth over the year and worked well as a team.
As we close Term 3, we can all be proud of the growth and achievements of our students across academics, the arts, sport and co-curricular pursuits. With one term remaining, we look forward to what else can be achieved as our students continue to strive, learn and grow.
I wish families a restful term break and I look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 4.
Director of Boarding • Elsa Kilgour
As the term wraps up, we farewell our Year 12 students. Some of the students have been part of our boarding family for six years. Last week, we celebrated their journey at our Boarding Farewell Dinner, a heartfelt evening organised and hosted by our Year 11 students. Their hard work and creativity made the night truly memorable. It was a beautiful way to say “see you soon” to a group of students who will be deeply missed.
Earlier this term, our Year 12s completed their trial exams with confidence. Many were pleasantly surprised by their results and it was a wonderful reminder that dedication and perseverance pays off. Alongside exams, the HSC Design & Technology and Industrial Technology projects were on display. The standard of work was exceptional: from textiles and trailers, gym equipment and ute canopies to works of art and even a golf buggy. Each project showcased the incredible talent, innovation and effort of our boarders. Well done.
Our Year 11s also undertook their exams with focus and composure. They are now looking forward to stepping into Year 12 and beginning their final year of school next term.
Boarders once again showed their generosity of spirit by assisting with the Father’s Day Breakfast; cooking and serving meals to support our wider school community.
Sport also has been a highlight in recent weeks, with many of our boarders competing in finals across their chosen sports. Congratulations to every student who represented their team with pride and to those fortunate enough to bring home a trophy to finish the season.
As we finish this busy and rewarding term, we wish all our boarders and their families a safe, restful and well-deserved break.

We gathered for our Final Chapel for the Class of 2025 on Wednesday.
In one of the most touching traditions at our School, our Kindergarten students walked Year 12 out of Chapel, symbolising both the journey's end and the legacy they leave behind.
It was a powerful reminder of the connections across our school community, from the first day of school to the last.
All the photos from Year 12 Final Chapel are on the Scots App.
Grandparents and Special Friends were treated to a very special day at Scots today.
More than 400 guests enjoyed a visit to their special student's classroom to see some of their work, help complete some drawings and participate in games. It was followed by a morning tea in the Senior Study Centre where young and old enjoyed fruit, scones, slices and sandwiches lovingly prepared by our Kitchen staff.
Many stayed on for the Special Assembly in Chapel Hall before bidding farewell to the students, to enjoy their final day of term.
All the photos from Grandparents Day are on the Scots App.
Parking and drop-off at Scots • Please show consideration for our neighbours!
Numerous vehicles parking along Wood and Perry Streets are blocking residential driveways or leaving very limited space for our neighbours to access their driveways.
Please show consideration to our neighbours and be mindful of their access to their own homes, including reviewing where others have parked near the driveways and ensuring sufficient room is left for ease of movement in and out of the driveway.
Let’s work together to keep our neighbours safe and happy!
Artist celebrates first curated exhibition
Class of 2023 alumna Madeleine Steer's first curation of an exhibition at MAMA gallery will open on Friday 3 October as part of the MAMA 10th birthday celebrations.
Maddie was an exhibiting artist in RAW24 and has been involved with MAMA since as a volunteer and casual team member. Maddie now lives in Melbourne where she is completing a degree in Curatorial Studies at Monash University.
Opening & Birthday event: Friday 3 October 2025, 6.00pm-8.00pm. The event is free and all are welcome.
We were thrilled to welcome back Class of 2016 alumnus, Essendon footballer Will Setterfield, as our guest speaker at the inaugural Scots Legacy Series breakfast last Friday.
The event was a huge success, with parents and students alike peppering Will with questions about his life as an elite footballer. He then stayed on to sign footballs and chat with everyone before attending the Sports Assembly to congratulate the prizewinners.
The Scots Legacy Series was initiated to honour the remarkable achievements of our alumni men – trailblazers who have not only excelled in their fields but have also left an enduring impact on our school community. It served as a balance to our annual International Women’s Day celebration, where we showcase and celebrate our successful women alumni. Together, these occasions ensure we recognise the breadth of talent and leadership that Scots has nurtured.
Our students are enjoying the best of Paris on the School's French immersion trip.
The group left last Sunday and have already taken in the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Trocadero, Arc De Triomphe and have spent some time in the "blindingly shiny and reflective mall", Les Galaries Lafayettes, where most of the students ate too many macarons and bought plenty of presents!
Over the next few days the group will experience Versailles, Chartres Cathedral, castle tours in Tours, Lyon old town before catching the train to Nice and then on to CMEF, the international French language school on the French Riviera, near Monaco.
We gathered as a school community for the annual Sports Awards Assembly on Friday 19 September - a special occasion that gave us the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students and recognise the outstanding efforts of our award winners.
It has been a year filled with standout moments across all levels of sport at Scots. From personal bests and premiership victories, to students representing at state and national levels, our athletes have continually demonstrated determination and pride in wearing the school colours. Just as importantly, this year has highlighted the powerful sense of team spirit that runs through our programs, reminding us that success is not only measured on the scoreboard, but also in the bonds formed and the resilience shown.
This assembly also was a chance to acknowledge the families, coaches and teachers whose ongoing support plays a vital role in every achievement. Together, these efforts reflect the values of commitment, perseverance and community that lie at the heart of sport at our School.
Congratulations to all our athletes on a remarkable year of sport.

Congratulations to our U13s Saturday Netball team, Sapphires, which finished as runners-up for the season.
The team delivered an outstanding performance in the grand final, holding the lead at various points of the match.
Throughout the season, the Sapphires demonstrated remarkable growth both in strategy and skill. Their dedication and determination were evident in every game, supported by the commitment and guidance of coaches Jess and Adelaide (Year 12).
Well done, Sapphires, on a fantastic season!
Pipe Band to host National Championships
Scots will host the Australian Juvenile Championships and the Australian Solo Piping Championships, being staged together for the first time, during the school holidays.
The event will feature more than 300 performances from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 October.
The Juvenile championships provide a stage for young musicians to perform in both solo and band settings, with opportunities that extend beyond traditional contest elements.
The Australian solo championships have a history dating back to 1961. Over three days, Australia's top pipers and drummers will compete for national titles across multiple disciplines: from marches, strathspeys and reels to hornpipes, jigs and the classical piobaireachd.
Event details:
Friday 3 October (evening): Piping A grade solos (top tier competitors)
Saturday 4 October (all day): Graded solos (all other competitors)
Saturday 4 October (evening): Drumming A Grade solos (top tier competitors)
Sunday 5 October (all day): The Australian Juvenile Championships (bands)
Victorian solo drumming championships
Scots has a newly crowned Victorian Solo Drumming Champion in Shanaaya Chowdhry (Year 9), who narrowly edged out fellow band member Ewan Douglas (Year 9) to claim first place in the C-Grade Snare Drumming competition at the Victorian Solo Drumming Championships hosted by Haileybury College recently.
There were more podium finishes across the band, with Cooper Ceeney placing third in the Novice Bass Drum event and Lokai Freeman securing second in the Novice Tenor Drum section.
Student Achievements
Equestrian - endurance
Poppy Kettlewell (Year 12) and her horse Oso Irazu finished an incredible 10th in the 2025 FEI Endurance World Championship for Young Riders and Juniors in Romania last weekend. Poppy and Irazu ran the gauntlet of the hot conditions to clock an average speed of 20.75kmh with average recoveries of 1min. 40seconds throughout the gruelling 120km race. The pair had to complete the last two loops alone, which can sometimes upset the horses but Irazu was up for the challenge and he passed each of the vet checks easily.
Softball
A huge congratulations to Bridie Bowran, Year 7, on her well-deserved selection into the Victorian Under 14 Softball Team! This achievement was a reflection of her hard work and commitment, including numerous trips to Melbourne for training and trials. Bridie and her teammates will represent Victoria at the National Championships in January, competing against the best young talent from across the country at the Waverley Softball Grounds.
Soccer
Flynn Semmens, Year 10, was awarded the Francesco Bertazzo Award (Junior Club Person of the Year) at the Albury Wodonga Football Association Senior Presentation Night. He earned the recognition for helping at every turn. He would arrive for the mini roos program full of energy and commitment - setting up the grounds, fixing goals, directing families to the right pitches and staying back to help pack everything away. For his club Albury United, Flynn also stepped up as a Mini Roos coach this season, helped set up, assisted in the canteen when injured and played in U16 boys, Div 3 Men, Reserve Men and Senior Men’s teams, along with playing for Albury Wodonga in the U16B representative team.
Basketball
Duke and Anastasia Maloney participated in Basketball NSW Under 12s Southern Jamboree program in Griffith over the July school holidays. After a full day of tryouts, both were selected to participate in the three-day program. Anastasia was the youngest under-12 player selected for the event.
Community
Students off to taste university life
Six Year 11 students - Ammar Syed, Edward Williams, Lacey Smith, Lilly Baranyay, Amy Campagna and Audrey Haymes - are preparing to participate in the University of Sydney Rural Residential Program in the holidays.
The University of Sydney hosts the highly competitive Year 11 Regional Residency to offer an immersive university experience, academic sessions and campus tours.
Its aim is to provide students from rural and regional areas with a taste of university life and to encourage their pursuit of higher education. Participants typically attend faculty-led academic sessions, learn about university pathways and entry schemes and engage in cultural activities and campus tours.
