Principal • Mark Hemphill

As I get older each year, I feel that the years are getting shorter and in the blink of an eye we are celebrating another Christmas when the last one only feels like yesterday. This feeling is best summed up by Dr Seuss who said "How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it’s June."
As we launch into our Summer holidays, I'd like to thank everyone for another wonderful year. We have achieved so much, and there is much for us to celebrate. In many ways it is always a relief to get to the end of the year as the pace of school life is so incredibly fast. This year has been no exception and in fact, as I mature into my more senior years, I feel the pace is increasing each year. We are definitely doing more and more each year.
I feel that our Scots students are incredibly lucky to have the volume, range and variety of activities on offer. In the past two weeks alone, we've had cyclists in Victoria on the Great Victorian Bike Ride, basketballers in Queensland at the Australian School Championships, students playing tennis, cricket and basketball against Trinity as well as many other activities. If I could relive my childhood years, I'd like to be a Scots student.
As we head into the Christmas season, I'd like to thank the students, families and staff for their contributions to Scots throughout the year, for their support of our incredible school and for the many interactions and conversations we have shared this year. Each day I continue to feel so lucky to lead this incredible school.
I hope that you all get to take a well-deserved break and have the opportunity to slow down, relax and to spend quality time with families, friends and loved ones. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing you all in February.
Farewells
As the year draws to a close, sadly there are friends, colleagues and workmates we need to farewell. I'd like to take the opportunity to say farewell to those students and families who are leaving Scots. I hope that you have enjoyed your time with us and that you will remember your time at Scots fondly. I wish you all much happiness and success in your new school.
We also have some staff who are leaving us:
Teaching staff include:
Mr Chris Torok
Ms Sarah Jane Turner
Ms Jane Mackinlay
Mr Alex Stanuga
Mrs Amanda Walsh.
Support staff include:
Dianne Harvey
Julianne Toepfer
Brendan Newley
I'd like to thank each of these staff for their many contributions to Scots and I wish them good health and happiness for the future.
New Junior School Update
After much anticipation, the renovated Library building (1B) was handed over last Monday 8 December and the renovation looks incredible. The finished building has exceeded our expectations and looks absolutely incredible. Our K-2 students, families and staff are going to love their new home. The K-2 staff have commenced moving very excitedly into their new home over the past few days.
In early January the final landscaping of the K-2 block will be completed ready for the return of students in February. Rapid progress is being made in the 1A Section of the building, with much of the internal work now being completed. This new building is anticipated to be completed by the end of February.
From today, demolition work will commence on the old K-2 building so the new car park and Kiss and Drop can be constructed. I have no doubt that Junior School students, families and staff can't wait for next year as we won't know ourselves in the new building.
Wilson House Boarding Renovation
The renovation of the Wilson House Boarding annex is progressing well and looks fantastic. This project will definitely be completed by the end of January. I have no doubt the students lucky enough to be in these renovated rooms will love their new spaces! This project is the first in an exciting sequence of renovations over the next five years, as we modernise our boarding facilities.
Carols
After some very changeable weather over the past few weeks we were blessed with "hot Aussie Christmas weather" for our annual Carols event last Friday night. It was wonderful to celebrate the end of the year and Christmas season with so many children and their families. This event also was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the musical talent of so many of our students.
After a wet and stormy 2024 event, it was great to experience an outdoor Carols event with so many members of the Scots community.

Class Of 2025
The Class of 2025 demonstrated admirable behaviour, commitment and dedication during their recent HSC exams. Apart from one very difficult Maths exam, the vast majority of the students felt that they had been well prepared and were generally happy with the exams.
On Saturday 15 November the Year 12 Graduation was held and a great time was enjoyed by all who attended.
We are now looking forward to the release of the HSC results and the students' ATAR, planned for Thursday 18 December. We are looking forward to celebrating the successes of our graduating class on this day.
